One day around Lake Learmonth
A full day on the lakes and plains north-west of Ballarat, combining Lake Learmonth, the heritage township and Lake Burrumbeet.
Morning at Lake Learmonth
Arrive in the morning while the light is soft on the water. Walk the eastern and northern shores, where the reserves, playgrounds and nature walks sit closest to town, and take in the ring of volcanic hills around the lake.

Midday in the township
Spend the middle of the day in the heritage precinct on foot. The streets retain their original nineteenth-century subdivisions and a run of buildings from the town's coaching-era heyday.
Learmonth Heritage Walk
A self-guided walk through the Learmonth Heritage Precinct, whose streets retain buildings from the 1850s onwards including the former courthouse and early timber churches.

Afternoon at Lake Burrumbeet
Drive the short leg west to Lake Burrumbeet for a change of scale: a broad, open freshwater lake with foreshore walks, birdlife and some of the region's best-known redfin fishing. Facilities are basic, so carry what you need.
Lake Burrumbeet
A large freshwater lake about 20 kilometres west of Ballarat and a short drive from Learmonth, popular for walking, picnicking, foreshore camping, boating and redfin fishing.
A complementary lakes stop about ten minutes' drive from Learmonth, often combined with Lake Learmonth in a day of lakes-and-plains touring.
