Lake Learmonth is framed by volcanic hills on three sides, with its nature walks giving shoreline vantage points close to town. Lake Burrumbeet offers bigger water and open horizons, and its foreshore attracts waterbirds that reward a patient wait.
In the township, the heritage precinct's nineteenth-century buildings sit best in low morning or late afternoon light.

A large freshwater lake about 20 kilometres west of Ballarat and a short drive from Learmonth, popular for walking, picnicking, foreshore camping, boating and redfin fishing.
