Clunes Booktown
The gold-rush town of Clunes is one of a small number of internationally recognised booktowns, with bookshops and preserved nineteenth-century streetscapes along Fraser Street.
Clunes, north of Ballarat and within easy reach of Learmonth, is one of only around fifteen internationally recognised booktowns in the world. Its bookshops sell collectable, rare, second-hand and new titles, set among well-preserved gold-rush era buildings along Fraser Street.
The town's annual Booktown Festival, first held in 2007, draws visitors from across Victoria. Outside festival time, Clunes remains a rewarding half-day stop for books, architecture and local history at the Clunes Museum.
A natural pairing with Learmonth on a country loop; see the Learmonth, Clunes and Creswick itinerary.
